TRUTH
Truth will ultimately prevail where there is pains taken to bring it to light. George Washington
You have heard it said by now that we should each ‘speak our own truth’ and ‘speak truth to power.’ Very few people can tell you what that means because there is a lack of understanding of truth across much of America today. We as individuals are not the arbiters about what is and is not true for that is God’s realm. There are many areas of life today where people attempt to claim something is true when it cannot be true no matter how loudly spoken. Truth is exclusive by its very nature, there can only be one. This is also a function of logic. Something cannot be both A and not-A at the same time and under the same conditions.
I will make it easy. There is a difference between saying something about myself that is true only of myself and my attempting to make a statement of the truth concerning another person. For example, I am wearing a grey West Yellowstone, Montana hooded sweatshirt. I assume this is a true statement for me, but not for you. If I were making that statement and then trying to tell you that my friend standing next to me is wearing the same thing when they are not, we move from truth to lie.
It does not matter how loudly I tell the lie, or how angry I get, my behavior and personal beliefs will not make a lie turn into truth. This is a simple comparison, so let us take it into another area of society where the truth is still simple, but the reactions are much different. When a person is telling you they are a female when in fact they were born male, they are simply using the same methods I described concerning clothing choice. No matter how loudly a person claims to be another gender/sex, the truth is they were fearfully and wonderfully made by a loving God the way they were born – male or female. Tantrums and demonstrations by people do not and cannot ever change the truth. It does not matter what the topic is.
Truth originates by, in, and through God who is the Creator of all things.
As Christian men and women, we are charged with holding firm as truth-bearers no matter the cost. This does not mean we will always get things right, but when we know something to be true we cannot adopt a lie in its place. Using the example of men and women, it would be adopting a lie to call a biological man anything but a man. The same is true for the use of the term “transgender” because a person cannot change their gender, it is scientifically impossible. Painting a house a different color only changes its appearance, the structure is the same. In humans that structure is DNA and the chromosomal system. Swapping parts changes the appearance only.
That is only one example of many lies we find in a society where language is used to prop up lies. Other lies include that abortion and transgenderism are healthcare, Critical Race Theory is history, special military operations are not war, and the list could go on. But the truth is still the truth and cannot be changed.
Therefore, the greatest love we can show each other is to tell each other the truth. God made this clear to us.
Ephesians 4:15 – “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of Him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Proverbs 12:22 - “The Lord detests lying lips, but He delights in those who tell the truth.”
Zechariah 8:16 - “These are the things you are to do: Speak the truth to each other, and render true and sound judgment in your courts.”
We must always speak the truth in love. Doing so will cause many to hate us, and others to love us more, but when the dust settles Christians will stand in judgment before God who created the universe, and they will answer to Him alone. Let us not be found to have spread a lie out of fear of the temporary judgment of man. Speaking truth to power is best done by speaking biblical truth, for there is no greater power.
For those who do not yet know Christ, I implore you to walk the path of knowledge that leads to Jesus Christ. That path is laid out HERE. Reach out to me at the email below and I would be happy to share more about the peace that comes with knowing Jesus.
