This was indeed a fools errand. I was on the team that solicited Army National Guard officers and NCOs to train the Afghan Nation Army. It was all for nothing as 99% of the "Soldiers" were deserters. No amount of training could help these stone age people. We all knew it 3 weeks after the start of the program. Nothing positive can be said about the entire debacle. A complete waste of blood and treasure.
